Replacement Dentures

It’s common for patients to need a denture replacement. Your dentures age as you age. In fact, they grow older faster than you do, and as you age, your gums start to shrink. This occurs naturally when teeth were extracted. However, over time, this could lead to an ill-fitting denture or facial collapse. Ill-fitting dentures can also lead to irritated gums, TMJ dysfunction, jaw pain, and other symptoms.

Our denturists, Shannon Gryskwicz and her highly skilled team, follow a custom denture construction process to help correct and prevent the aforementioned problems. During your first visit, we’ll take impressions of your teeth. Our denturists will choose the correct size, shape, and color of your teeth. During the second visit we use precise facial measurements called the Gothic Arch Tracing, to ensure you have natural-looking teeth that fit nice and snugly.

During the third visit, we let you preview your teeth set in wax so you can show your denturist exactly how you want them to look. 

Signs You Need Denture Replacements

• Discomfort: One of the biggest signs that you need replacement dentures is discomfort. Of course, upon initially getting your dentures, they may feel a bit uncomfortable because they are something new in your mouth. However, if over time, discomfort with your dentures has developed, then it may be a sign that you need new dentures. This could mean they are not functioning properly. • Chips or Cracks: If dentures are not cared for properly, they can suffer damages like chips & cracks. On the other hand, if you have had your dentures for many years, it could also be due to normal wear. • Severe Stains: Just like natural teeth, dentures can form severe stains. Stains occur due to heavily dyed beverages or a lack of cleaning. If dentures become very stained, it may be best to have them replaced.
• Chewing Issues: Your dentures should allow you to eat, chew, & drink without any issues because that is what they are created for. That being said, if you are experiencing problems with chewing, it may be time to get replacement dentures. These appliances are supposed to make life easier, so if they are causing problems then you need to get new ones.
